I am Manju M George, Associate Professor, Department of Botany , Union Christian College , Aluva.
I did my schooling from Seventh Day Adventist school, Kottarakara, later B.Sc from St.Gregorios College, Kottarakara under Kerala University and further moved to Sardar Patel University, Anand, Gujarat for my M.Sc and PhD and Completed in Y 2000 and got KOSEF post doctoral fellowship and joined KGTRI, Taejon, Korea for an Year later moved to Dept of Horticulture, University of Minnesota, St.Paul, USA to pursue higher studies. Back home for a while and moved to NPUST Pingtung, Taiwan for post doctoral studies. In 2006 Joined Union Christian College, Aluva at Department of Botany. In 2007 I was awarded with Inoue Foundation of Science, Tokyo, Japan Young Scientist award and worked at National Fruit tree sciences, Morioka Japan in Apple Breeding station and Citrus Research Station, Shizuoka, Japan.
I teach Horticulture, Plant Breeding and Plant Biotechnology for B.Sc and M.Sc students. My area of interest and specialization is in Plant Micropropagation (Medicinal and Aromatic plants) and Production of transgenic plants by molecular biology techniques. Viz.Disease resistant plants, genetically modification of crop plants, Landscape plants etc and also keen in knowing the specialization in Plant Molecular biology, Genomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics.
I have received an UGC- Minor Research Project in 2010 for Rs.1.45 Lakhs for “Transformation studies in Coleus forskohlii” A medicinally important plan, which I have successfully finished and also got one more Major research project from Department of Biotechnology: New Delhi on “Differential expression of DFR and CHI 1 Genes for colour mutants in Oncidium orchid”. Rs. 24.6 lakhs. One more UGC minor research project has been sanctioned a financial assistance of 1.4 Lakh Rs. to carry out work on Tissue Culture of Barlaria lupulina plants.
